What are the features of Bluish White Porcelain in Jingdezhen ceramics?

Many people know about the history of ceramics that the most famous bluish white porcelain of Jingdezhen ceramics was in the Song Dynasty. And it is precisely because of this bluish white porcelain makes the name of Jingdezhen after Emperor Song Zhenzong, since then the Jingdezhen ceramics became world-famous. It is generally believed that Jingdezhen bluish white porcelain has four main characteristics of easy to distinguish. Today I will show you what are the four aspects of it.

(1) Green-wares

Jingdezhen bluish white porcelain was produced by the local porcelain clay, the clay enjoys high quality and smooth surface, its color was light gray and brown beige basically, a lot of utensils at the exposed green-ware have granular soil residue, with rice paste shape.

(2) Shape

For the main daily use of ceramics,such as cup, plate, bowl, dish, the pot, injection, note bowl, lamp holder, melon prism, all kinds of boxes, porcelain pillow, Barn and other ceramics. There are some models are imitation at the time of gold and silver type, a lively and beautiful features, it is feast for the eyes.

(3) glaze

The bluish and white glaze apply to the porcelain can be divided into two types: First, in the cup which flash light blue, thick dark flash with green, shiny fine, bright and thorough, no crack pattern, glaze with impalpable bubbles. Second, the glaze light blue flashing yellow, crystal moist, with fine crack lines.There is a blue-white glaze painted brown color, called "point color." The point location of color in the Song dynasty was natural casually, the point was also very small brown obvious shades, the center is the thickest, rusty spot, look at its surface is not bright, like charred rice.

(4) Pattern decoration

We use carved, castor point, comb sweep, printing, embossed decoration and other decor techniques, sometimes several methods used together. The patterns are rich and colorful, such as flowers, animals, landscapes, figures and so on.

Though the Bluish white porcelain was developed in the Song Dynasty, but the firing art technology of white porcelain had spread out, until now Jingdezhen is still continue to fire it. What's the difference between Ceramic & Porcelain artwork?

What’s ceramics? What is porcelain? What is the difference between them ?

Popularly speaking, pottery clay was after fired was called pottery,while porcelain clay ware fired was called porcelain. Ceramic is pottery, stoneware and porcelain in generic terms. All pottery clay and porcelain clay were using two different types of clay as raw materials,through preparation, molding, drying, roasting process made objects can be called ceramics. Earlier than the emergence of pottery porcelain, according to historical records, thousands of years ago, our country was firing the pottery; until the Wei and Jin Dynasties, has further created the porcelain.

The fundamental difference between porcelain and pottery is: porcelain ware body is completely sintered, small porosity , high mechanical strength, high temperature firing; while pottery body is lower level sintering, large porosity,lower firing temperature . If the porcelain were broken, its section is smooth and dense, while the pottery sections will become coarse and loose.

Broadly speaking, porcelain was evolved from pottery, we can say that there is no invention and development of pottery can be no porcelain. After the emergence of porcelain, pottery was continued to develop, not the “porcelain" instead of "Pottery", but they developed independently.

Stoneware name came from Europe, the original intention was stone. A Japanese translation in order to show that it’s not processed by stone, but after firing, so plus the word next to "fire", writing as stoneware. Stoneware is interposed between pottery and  porcelain of ceramic products.
