What’s ceramics? What is porcelain? What is the difference between them ?
Popularly speaking, pottery clay was after fired was called pottery,while porcelain clay ware fired was called porcelain. Ceramic is pottery, stoneware and porcelain in generic terms. All pottery clay and porcelain clay were using two different types of clay as raw materials,through preparation, molding, drying, roasting process made objects can be called ceramics. Earlier than the emergence of pottery porcelain, according to historical records, thousands of years ago, our country was firing the pottery; until the Wei and Jin Dynasties, has further created the porcelain.

The fundamental difference between porcelain and pottery is: porcelain ware body is completely sintered, small porosity , high mechanical strength, high temperature firing; while pottery body is lower level sintering, large porosity,lower firing temperature . If the porcelain were broken, its section is smooth and dense, while the pottery sections will become coarse and loose.
Broadly speaking, porcelain was evolved from pottery, we can say that there is no invention and development of pottery can be no porcelain. After the emergence of porcelain, pottery was continued to develop, not the “porcelain" instead of "Pottery", but they developed independently.

Stoneware name came from Europe, the original intention was stone. A Japanese translation in order to show that it’s not processed by stone, but after firing, so plus the word next to "fire", writing as stoneware. Stoneware is interposed between pottery and porcelain of ceramic products.
